Short answer: Yes—if your plan’s deductible is $2,500, you can contribute up to $3,500 (individual) or $7,000 (family) in 2021.

HSA contributions despite a $2,500 deductible

If your health insurance plan has a deductible of $2,500, you can still contribute up to $3,500 to your HSA as an individual or up to $7,000 for a family in 2021. However, if you are 55 or older, you can make an additional catch-up contribution of $1,000. This means that the total contribution limit can be $4,500 for an individual or $8,000 for a family, including the catch-up contribution.

Understanding the financial aspects of your health insurance can be tricky, particularly when it comes to how much you can contribute to your Health Savings Account (HSA). If your plan has a deductible of $2,500, you’re still welcome to contribute up to $3,500 as an individual or $7,000 for a family in 2021. And let's not forget, if you’re aged 55 or older, you can also make an extra catch-up contribution of $1,000. This gives you a potential total contribution of $4,500 for individuals or $8,000 for families!
